OPEN CALL: ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
CAMPING PLAYA SAUCES
Location: Camping Playa Sauces Ribadesella, on the outskirts of the village of Ribadesella, next to the sea, nature, cliffs, Cantabrian mountains and close to the Picos Mountains — directly on the Camino de Santiago.
We invite artists to sign up for a special artist-in‑residence at the campsite where tourists, surfers and pilgrims come together. This environment offers a unique breeding ground for artists who want to work with themes such as sea, landscape, surfing, Asturian culture, travel, spirituality, geology, light, sound, encounter or the rhythm of being on the road.
What do we offer?
- A large glamping tent as a studio and workspace for 2 independent artists per period
- Stay at the campsite during the residency in the same glamping tent or your own tent brought by yourself
- An exceptionally inspiring and also international environment: friendly Asturian people, sea, cliffs, coastal paths, mountains, nature reserves, the village of Ribadesella and the Camino
- Access to basic facilities (power, tables, lighting)
- Stay and possibilities for free lunch are included
- Possibility to organize workshops, open studio moments and a final presentation
- A diverse audience: camping guests, surfers, pilgrims, hikers, nature lovers and villagers
We are looking for artists who:
- find inspiration in nature, coastal landscape, mountains, sea, travel, cultural rituals or stories
- are interested in the Celtic culture of Asturias
- be open to contact with visitors, surfers and pilgrims
- are able to work independently
- want to develop a project that fits the atmosphere of the campsite, Ribadesella and Asturias
- come from all disciplines: visual arts like painting, illustration, photography, craft etc
What do we expect?
- On-site presence during the agreed period
- At least 2 public moments (1 workshop for the camping guests, possible open studio, and 1 exhibition)
- A brief explanation of the work process for our communication channels
- Respect for peace, nature, tourists and the pilgrimage route
